Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. जमदग्निरुवाच ।
अद्यैनं दीप्तकिरणं रेणुके तव दुःखदम् ।
शरैर्निपातयिष्यामि सूर्यमस्त्राग्नितेजसा ॥ १७ ॥

jamadagniruvāca |
adyainaṃ dīptakiraṇaṃ reṇuke tava duḥkhadam |
śarairnipātayiṣyāmi sūryamastrāgnitejasā || 17 ||
