Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. स्वकर्मभिर्मानवं संनिबद्धं तीव्रान्धकारे नरके पतन्तम् ।
महार्णवे नौरिव वायुयुक्ता दानं गवां तारयते परत्र ॥ ३१ ॥

svakarmabhirmānavaṃ saṃnibaddhaṃ tīvrāndhakāre narake patantam |
mahārṇave nauriva vāyuyuktā dānaṃ gavāṃ tārayate paratra || 31 ||
