Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. This portion also contains the Bhagavad-Gita. Alternative titles: Mahābhārata (महाभारत).

केन वा किं ततो हार्यं पितृवित्तात्पितामह ।
एतदिच्छामि कथितं विभागस्तेषु यः स्मृतः ॥ ६ ॥

kena vā kiṃ tato hāryaṃ pitṛvittātpitāmaha |
etadicchāmi kathitaṃ vibhāgasteṣu yaḥ smṛtaḥ || 6 ||
