Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. यत्र भागीरथी गङ्गा भजते दिशमुत्तराम् ।
महेश्वरस्य निष्ठाने यो नरस्त्वभिषिच्यते ।
एकमासं निराहारः स्वयं पश्यति देवताः ॥ १४ ॥

yatra bhāgīrathī gaṅgā bhajate diśamuttarām |
maheśvarasya niṣṭhāne yo narastvabhiṣicyate |
ekamāsaṃ nirāhāraḥ svayaṃ paśyati devatāḥ || 14 ||
