Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. अपरिज्ञातपूर्वाश्च गणपूर्वाश्च भारत ।
पुत्रिकापूर्वपुत्राश्च श्राद्धे नार्हन्ति केतनम् ॥ २१ ॥
