Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. This portion also contains the Bhagavad-Gita. Alternative titles: Mahābhārata (महाभारत).

नमोऽस्तु ते शाश्वत सर्वयोने ब्रह्माधिपं त्वामृषयो वदन्ति ।
तपश्च सत्त्वं च रजस्तमश्च त्वामेव सत्यं च वदन्ति सन्तः ॥ ३० ॥

namo'stu te śāśvata sarvayone brahmādhipaṃ tvāmṛṣayo vadanti |
tapaśca sattvaṃ ca rajastamaśca tvāmeva satyaṃ ca vadanti santaḥ || 30 ||
