Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. शतक्रतुश्च भगवान्विष्णुश्चादितिनन्दनौ ।
ब्रह्मा रथन्तरं साम ईरयन्ति भवान्तिके ॥ १६ ॥
