Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. तापसी तु ततः शक्रमुवाच प्रयताञ्जलिः ।
स्त्रीभूतस्य हि ये जातास्ते मे जीवन्तु वासव ॥ ३९ ॥

tāpasī tu tataḥ śakramuvāca prayatāñjaliḥ |
strībhūtasya hi ye jātāste me jīvantu vāsava || 39 ||
