Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. महत्कार्यं तु कर्तव्यं युष्माभिर्द्विजसत्तमाः ।
इतः कृतयुगेऽतीते विपर्यासं गतेऽपि च ॥ ५० ॥

mahatkāryaṃ tu kartavyaṃ yuṣmābhirdvijasattamāḥ |
itaḥ kṛtayuge'tīte viparyāsaṃ gate'pi ca || 50 ||
