Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. विपर्यये तस्य हि पार्थ देवान्गच्छन्ति सांख्याः सततं सुखेन ।
तांश्चानुसंचार्य ततः कृतार्थाः पतन्ति विप्रेषु यतेषु भूयः ॥ १०६ ॥

viparyaye tasya hi pārtha devāngacchanti sāṃkhyāḥ satataṃ sukhena |
tāṃścānusaṃcārya tataḥ kṛtārthāḥ patanti vipreṣu yateṣu bhūyaḥ || 106 ||
