Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. प्रजाविसर्गं तु सशेषकालं स्थानानि स्वान्येव सरन्ति जीवाः ।
निःशेषाणां तत्पदं यान्ति चान्ते सर्वापदा ये सदृशा मनुष्याः ॥ ५२ ॥

prajāvisargaṃ tu saśeṣakālaṃ sthānāni svānyeva saranti jīvāḥ |
niḥśeṣāṇāṃ tatpadaṃ yānti cānte sarvāpadā ye sadṛśā manuṣyāḥ || 52 ||
