Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. This portion also contains the Bhagavad-Gita. Alternative titles: Mahābhārata (महाभारत).

न वीरपत्नीं विहरेत नारीं न चापि नारीमनृतावाह्वयीत ।
भार्याव्रतं ह्यात्मनि धारयीत तथास्योपस्थद्वारगुप्तिर्भवेत ॥ २६ ॥

na vīrapatnīṃ vihareta nārīṃ na cāpi nārīmanṛtāvāhvayīta |
bhāryāvrataṃ hyātmani dhārayīta tathāsyopasthadvāraguptirbhaveta || 26 ||
