Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. स्पर्धां जहि महाप्राज्ञ ततः प्राप्स्यसि यत्परम् ।
श्रद्धावाञ्श्रद्दधानश्च धर्मांश्चैवेह वाणिजः ।
स्ववर्त्मनि स्थितश्चैव गरीयानेष जाजले ॥ १६ ॥
