Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. यथा कूर्म इहाङ्गानि प्रसार्य विनियच्छति ।
एवमेवेन्द्रियग्रामं बुद्धिः सृष्ट्वा नियच्छति ॥ १७ ॥

yathā kūrma ihāṅgāni prasārya viniyacchati |
evamevendriyagrāmaṃ buddhiḥ sṛṣṭvā niyacchati || 17 ||
