Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. अनागतिं सुकृतिमतां परां गतिं स्वयंभुवं प्रभवनिधानमव्ययम् ।
सनातनं यदमृतमव्ययं पदं विचार्य तं शमममृतत्वमश्नुते ॥ ३२ ॥

anāgatiṃ sukṛtimatāṃ parāṃ gatiṃ svayaṃbhuvaṃ prabhavanidhānamavyayam |
sanātanaṃ yadamṛtamavyayaṃ padaṃ vicārya taṃ śamamamṛtatvamaśnute || 32 ||
