Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. अनन्तमेतदाकाशं सिद्धचारणसेवितम् ।
रम्यं नानाश्रयाकीर्णं यस्यान्तो नाधिगम्यते ॥ २३ ॥
