Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. विश्वामित्र उवाच ।
स्थाने तावत्संशयः प्रेत्यभावे निःसंशयं कर्मणां वा विनाशः ।
अहं पुनर्वर्त इत्याशयात्मा मूलं रक्षन्भक्षयिष्याम्यभक्ष्यम् ॥ ७५ ॥
