Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. कुलीना देशजाः प्राज्ञा रूपवन्तो बहुश्रुताः ।
प्रगल्भाश्चानुरक्ताश्च ते तव स्युः परिच्छदाः ॥ ५ ॥

kulīnā deśajāḥ prājñā rūpavanto bahuśrutāḥ |
pragalbhāścānuraktāśca te tava syuḥ paricchadāḥ || 5 ||
