Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. तस्यैवं वर्तमानस्य पुरुषस्याप्रमादिनः ।
अमित्राः संप्रसीदन्ति तथा मित्रीभवन्त्यपि ॥ ४० ॥

tasyaivaṃ vartamānasya puruṣasyāpramādinaḥ |
amitrāḥ saṃprasīdanti tathā mitrībhavantyapi || 40 ||
