Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. क्षताद्भीतं विजानीयादुत्तमं मित्रलक्षणम् ।
ये तस्य क्षतमिच्छन्ति ते तस्य रिपवः स्मृताः ॥ १९ ॥

kṣatādbhītaṃ vijānīyāduttamaṃ mitralakṣaṇam |
ye tasya kṣatamicchanti te tasya ripavaḥ smṛtāḥ || 19 ||
