Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. ब्राह्मणान्परिरक्षन्ति संग्रामेष्वपलायिनः ।
क्षत्रिया मे स्वकर्मस्था मामकान्तरमाविशः ॥ १४ ॥

brāhmaṇānparirakṣanti saṃgrāmeṣvapalāyinaḥ |
kṣatriyā me svakarmasthā māmakāntaramāviśaḥ || 14 ||
