Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. स्पर्शे चाभ्यवहार्ये चाप्युपांशुर्विविधः स्मृतः ।
अरिर्मित्रमुदासीन इत्येतेऽप्यनुवर्णिताः ॥ ४३ ॥

sparśe cābhyavahārye cāpyupāṃśurvividhaḥ smṛtaḥ |
arirmitramudāsīna ityete'pyanuvarṇitāḥ || 43 ||
