Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. ययौ रथानां पुरतो हि सा चमूस्तथैव पश्चादतिमात्रसारिणी ।
पुरश्च पश्चाच्च यथा महानदी पुरर्क्षवन्तं गिरिमेत्य नर्मदा ॥ ३२ ॥

yayau rathānāṃ purato hi sā camūstathaiva paścādatimātrasāriṇī |
puraśca paścācca yathā mahānadī purarkṣavantaṃ girimetya narmadā || 32 ||
