Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. यदैनं पतितं भूमावपश्यं रुधिरोक्षितम् ।
तदैवाविशदत्युग्रो ज्वरो मे मुनिसत्तम ।
येन संवर्धिता बाला येन स्म परिरक्षिताः ॥ १२ ॥

yadainaṃ patitaṃ bhūmāvapaśyaṃ rudhirokṣitam |
tadaivāviśadatyugro jvaro me munisattama |
yena saṃvardhitā bālā yena sma parirakṣitāḥ || 12 ||
