Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. संदश्यमानोऽपि तथा कृमिणा तेन भारत ।
गुरुप्रबोधशङ्की च तमुपैक्षत सूतजः ॥ ८ ॥

saṃdaśyamāno'pi tathā kṛmiṇā tena bhārata |
guruprabodhaśaṅkī ca tamupaikṣata sūtajaḥ || 8 ||
