Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. त इमे निहताः संख्ये पश्य कालस्य पर्ययम् ।
नातिभारोऽस्ति दैवस्य ध्रुवं माधव कश्चन ।
यदिमे निहताः शूराः क्षत्रियैः क्षत्रियर्षभाः ॥ ३० ॥

ta ime nihatāḥ saṃkhye paśya kālasya paryayam |
nātibhāro'sti daivasya dhruvaṃ mādhava kaścana |
yadime nihatāḥ śūrāḥ kṣatriyaiḥ kṣatriyarṣabhāḥ || 30 ||
