Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. This portion also contains the Bhagavad-Gita. Alternative titles: Mahābhārata (महाभारत).

तेनापि सुहृदा ब्रह्मन्पार्थेनाक्लिष्टकर्मणा ।
नोक्तपूर्वमिदं वाक्यं यत्त्वं मामभिभाषसे ॥ २८ ॥

tenāpi suhṛdā brahmanpārthenākliṣṭakarmaṇā |
noktapūrvamidaṃ vākyaṃ yattvaṃ māmabhibhāṣase || 28 ||
