Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. मेदोमज्जास्थिरक्तानां वसानां च भृशाशिताः ।
परमांसानि खादन्तः क्रव्यादा मांसजीविनः ॥ १३२ ॥

medomajjāsthiraktānāṃ vasānāṃ ca bhṛśāśitāḥ |
paramāṃsāni khādantaḥ kravyādā māṃsajīvinaḥ || 132 ||
