Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. ववुर्वाताः सनिर्घाताः पांसुवर्षं पपात च ।
बभूवुश्च दिशः सर्वास्तिमिरेण समावृताः ॥ ८ ॥

babhūvuśca diśaḥ sarvāstimireṇa samāvṛtāḥ || 8 ||
