Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. सहस्रनेत्राशनितुल्यतेजसं समानक्रव्यादमिवातिदुःसहम् ।
पिनाकनारायणचक्रसंनिभं भयंकरं प्राणभृतां विनाशनम् ॥ १८ ॥
