Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. This portion also contains the Bhagavad-Gita. Alternative titles: Mahābhārata (महाभारत).

त्वया च पार्थैश्च परस्परेण प्रजाः शिवं प्राप्नुयुरिच्छति त्वयि ।
व्रजन्तु शेषाः स्वपुराणि पार्थिवा निवृत्तवैराश्च भवन्तु सैनिकाः ॥ २३ ॥

tvayā ca pārthaiśca paraspareṇa prajāḥ śivaṃ prāpnuyuricchati tvayi |
vrajantu śeṣāḥ svapurāṇi pārthivā nivṛttavairāśca bhavantu sainikāḥ || 23 ||
