Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. This portion also contains the Bhagavad-Gita. Alternative titles: Mahābhārata (महाभारत).

धनंजयः स्थास्यति वारितो मया जनार्दनो नैव विरोधमिच्छति ।
युधिष्ठिरो भूतहिते सदा रतो वृकोदरस्तद्वशगस्तथा यमौ ॥ २२ ॥

dhanaṃjayaḥ sthāsyati vārito mayā janārdano naiva virodhamicchati |
yudhiṣṭhiro bhūtahite sadā rato vṛkodarastadvaśagastathā yamau || 22 ||
