Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. शरान्धकारे तु महात्मभिः कृते महामृधे योधवरैः परस्परम् ।
बभुर्दशाशा न दिवं च पार्थिव प्रभा च सूर्यस्य तमोवृताभवत् ॥ ६९ ॥

śarāndhakāre tu mahātmabhiḥ kṛte mahāmṛdhe yodhavaraiḥ parasparam |
babhurdaśāśā na divaṃ ca pārthiva prabhā ca sūryasya tamovṛtābhavat || 69 ||
