Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. अपयानकृतोत्साहो निराशश्चापि जीविते ।
तस्थौ सुविह्वलः संख्ये प्रहारजनितश्रमः ॥ ७४ ॥

apayānakṛtotsāho nirāśaścāpi jīvite |
tasthau suvihvalaḥ saṃkhye prahārajanitaśramaḥ || 74 ||
