Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. प्रच्छादितं बडिशमिवामिषेण प्रच्छादितो गवय इवापवाचा ।
अनर्थकं मे दर्शितवानसि त्वं राज्यार्थिनो राज्यरूपं विनाशम् ॥ ५ ॥

pracchāditaṃ baḍiśamivāmiṣeṇa pracchādito gavaya ivāpavācā |
anarthakaṃ me darśitavānasi tvaṃ rājyārthino rājyarūpaṃ vināśam || 5 ||
