Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. प्रपक्षं स समासाद्य पार्थः काम्बोजरक्षितम् ।
प्रममाथ बलाद्बाणैर्दानवानिव वासवः ॥ १०० ॥

prapakṣaṃ sa samāsādya pārthaḥ kāmbojarakṣitam |
pramamātha balādbāṇairdānavāniva vāsavaḥ || 100 ||
