Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. दुर्योधनार्थं तव चाप्रियार्थं यशोर्थमात्मार्थमपीश्वरार्थम् ।
तस्मादहं पाण्डववासुदेवौ योत्स्ये यत्नात्कर्म तत्पश्य मेऽद्य ॥ २५ ॥

duryodhanārthaṃ tava cāpriyārthaṃ yaśorthamātmārthamapīśvarārtham |
tasmādahaṃ pāṇḍavavāsudevau yotsye yatnātkarma tatpaśya me'dya || 25 ||
