Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. श्रूयन्ते स्म तदा वाचः सिद्धानां वै मुहुर्मुहुः ।
सिंहनादश्च संजज्ञे समेतानां दिवौकसाम् ।
अद्भुतं चाप्यचिन्त्यं च दृष्ट्वा कर्म तयोर्मृधे ॥ ३२ ॥
