Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. हतप्रवीरे सैन्येऽस्मिन्मामके वदतां वर ।
अहताञ्शंस मे सूत येऽत्र जीवन्ति केचन ॥ ८८ ॥

hatapravīre sainye'sminmāmake vadatāṃ vara |
ahatāñśaṃsa me sūta ye'tra jīvanti kecana || 88 ||
