Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. पतिः कुरूणां गजसिंहगामी विशालवक्षाः पृथुलोहिताक्षः ।
प्रादुश्चकारास्त्रमहीनतेजा माहेन्द्रमन्यत्स जघान तेऽस्त्रे ॥ ३२ ॥
