Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. धनंजय शिरश्छिन्धि सैन्धवस्य दुरात्मनः ।
अस्तं महीधरश्रेष्ठं यियासति दिवाकरः ।
शृणुष्वैव च मे वाक्यं जयद्रथवधं प्रति ॥ १६ ॥

dhanaṃjaya śiraśchindhi saindhavasya durātmanaḥ |
astaṃ mahīdharaśreṣṭhaṃ yiyāsati divākaraḥ |
