Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. तूष्णींभूतान्यनीकानि योधा युद्धादुपारमन् ।
ददृशे द्वैरथं ताभ्यां जातकौतूहलो जनः ॥ २२ ॥

tūṣṇīṃbhūtānyanīkāni yodhā yuddhādupāraman |
dadṛśe dvairathaṃ tābhyāṃ jātakautūhalo janaḥ || 22 ||
