Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. धार्तराष्ट्रस्य शिबिरे मया प्रणिहिताश्चराः ।
त इमे शीघ्रमागम्य प्रवृत्तिं वेदयन्ति नः ॥ ४ ॥

dhārtarāṣṭrasya śibire mayā praṇihitāścarāḥ |
ta ime śīghramāgamya pravṛttiṃ vedayanti naḥ || 4 ||
