Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. This portion also contains the Bhagavad-Gita. Alternative titles: Mahābhārata (महाभारत).

यदि विशति रसातलं तदग्र्यं वियदपि देवपुरं दितेः पुरं वा ।
तदपि शरशतैरहं प्रभाते भृशमभिपत्य रिपोः शिरोऽभिहर्ता ॥ ३९ ॥

yadi viśati rasātalaṃ tadagryaṃ viyadapi devapuraṃ diteḥ puraṃ vā |
tadapi śaraśatairahaṃ prabhāte bhṛśamabhipatya ripoḥ śiro'bhihartā || 39 ||
