Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. This portion also contains the Bhagavad-Gita. Alternative titles: Mahābhārata (महाभारत).

Verse 7.29.41

पिता सुतं त्यजति सुहृद्वरं सुहृत्तथैव पुत्रः पितरं शरातुरः ।
स्वरक्षणे कृतमतयस्तदा जनास्त्यजन्ति वाहानपि पार्थपीडिताः ॥ ४१ ॥

pitā sutaṃ tyajati suhṛdvaraṃ suhṛttathaiva putraḥ pitaraṃ śarāturaḥ |
svarakṣaṇe kṛtamatayastadā janāstyajanti vāhānapi pārthapīḍitāḥ || 41 ||
