Consisting of 18 books, the Mahabharata details the history and legends concerning ancient India (Bharata), including a major battle campaign involving the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also known as the Kurukshetra War. अनिलेन यथाभ्राणि विच्छिन्नानि समन्ततः ।
तथा पार्थस्य सैन्यानि विच्छिन्नानि क्वचित्क्वचित् ॥ ३२ ॥
