The Garga-samhita Verse 6.10.15, English translation, including word-by-word: This text represents a Vaishnava scripture which narrates the life Krishna, It was composed in seventeen cantos by Garga Muni: an ancient sage and priest of the Yadu dynasty having. This is verse 6 of Chapter 10 (In the Description of the Gomati River, the Glories of Cakra-tirtha) of Canto 6 (dvaraka-khanda).

Sanskrit text, transliteration and word-by-word meaning:

पञ्चाशत्-पञ्च-वर्शाणि
व्यतीयुः पश्यतां सताम्
एवं कश्मलम् आपन्नो
गजो जाति-स्मरो महान्

pañcāśat-pañca-varśāṇi
vyatīyuḥ paśyatāṃ satām
evaṃ kaśmalam āpanno
gajo jāti-smaro mahān

pañcāśat-pañca-varśāṇi—55 years; vyatīyuḥ—passed; paśyatām—looking on; satām—the devotees; evam—thus; kaśmalam—weakness; āpannaḥ—attained; gajaḥthe elephant; jāti-smaraḥremembering his past birth; mahāngreat.

English translation of verse 6.10.15:

As many saintly persons watched, the crocodile and the elephant fought for fifty-five years. Finally the elephant, now exhausted, remembered his previous birth.
