पञ्चाशत्-पञ्च-वर्शाणि
व्यतीयुः पश्यतां सताम्
एवं कश्मलम् आपन्नो
गजो जाति-स्मरो महान्
pañcāśat-pañca-varśāṇi
vyatīyuḥ paśyatāṃ satām
evaṃ kaśmalam āpanno
gajo jāti-smaro mahān
pañcāśat-pañca-varśāṇi—55 years; vyatīyuḥ—passed; paśyatām—looking on; satām—the devotees; evam—thus; kaśmalam—weakness; āpannaḥ—attained; gajaḥ—the elephant; jāti-smaraḥ—remembering his past birth; mahān—great.
English translation of verse 6.10.15:
As many saintly persons watched, the crocodile and the elephant fought for fifty-five years. Finally the elephant, now exhausted, remembered his previous birth.
