The Garga-samhita Verse 5.12.13, English translation, including word-by-word: This text represents a Vaishnava scripture which narrates the life Krishna, It was composed in seventeen cantos by Garga Muni: an ancient sage and priest of the Yadu dynasty having. This is verse 5 of Chapter 12 (Pancajana’s Previous Birth) of Canto 5 (mathura-khanda).

Sanskrit text, transliteration and word-by-word meaning:

स्रि-नरद उवच अलकयम् पुर यक्सो देवयक्स इति स्म्र्तह् ज्ननि ज्नन-परो मन्यह् चिव-भक्त्य मह-द्युतिह् स्रि-नरद

sri-narada uvaca alakayam pura yakso devayaksa iti smrtah jnani jnana-paro manyah civa-bhaktya maha-dyutih sri-narada

uvaca—Sri Narada said; alakayam—in Alaka-puri; purapreviously; yaksah—Yaksa; devayaksa—Devayaksa; iti—thus; smrtah—considered; jnaniwise; jnana-parah—devoted to knowledge; manyah—honorable; civa-bhaktya—with devotion to Lord Siva; maha-dyutih—very splendid.

English translation of verse 5.12.13:

Sri Narada said: In ancient times there was a Yaksa named Devayaksa, who lived in Alaka-puri. He was wise, learned, glorious, and sincerely devoted to Lord Siva.
