The Garga-samhita Verse 5.9.14, English translation, including word-by-word: This text represents a Vaishnava scripture which narrates the life Krishna, It was composed in seventeen cantos by Garga Muni: an ancient sage and priest of the Yadu dynasty having. This is verse 5 of Chapter 9 (The Happiness of the Yadus) of Canto 5 (mathura-khanda).

Sanskrit text, transliteration and word-by-word meaning:

गुरवे दक्षिणां दातुं
उद्यतौ तौ कृताञ्जली
मृतं पुत्रं दक्षिणायां
ताभ्यां वव्रे गुरुर् द्विजः

gurave dakṣiṇāṃ dātuṃ
udyatau tau kṛtāñjalī
mṛtaṃ putraṃ dakṣiṇāyāṃ
tābhyāṃ vavre gurur dvijaḥ

gurave—to Their guru; dakṣiṇām—daksina; dātum—to give; udyatau—eager; tau—They; kṛtāñjalīwith folded hands; mṛtamdead; putram—son; dakṣiṇāyām—in daksina; tābhyām—to Them; vavre—chose; guruḥof the guru; dvijaḥ—the brāhmaṇa.

English translation of verse 5.9.14:

When Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma approached with folded hands to offer daksiṇā, Their brāhmaṇa guru chose the return of his dead son as his dakṣiṇā.
