गुरवे दक्षिणां दातुं
उद्यतौ तौ कृताञ्जली
मृतं पुत्रं दक्षिणायां
ताभ्यां वव्रे गुरुर् द्विजः
gurave dakṣiṇāṃ dātuṃ
udyatau tau kṛtāñjalī
mṛtaṃ putraṃ dakṣiṇāyāṃ
tābhyāṃ vavre gurur dvijaḥ
gurave—to Their guru; dakṣiṇām—daksina; dātum—to give; udyatau—eager; tau—They; kṛtāñjalī—with folded hands; mṛtam—dead; putram—son; dakṣiṇāyām—in daksina; tābhyām—to Them; vavre—chose; guruḥ—of the guru; dvijaḥ—the brāhmaṇa.
English translation of verse 5.9.14:
When Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma approached with folded hands to offer daksiṇā, Their brāhmaṇa guru chose the return of his dead son as his dakṣiṇā.
