आकृष्य कर्ण-पर्यन्तं
दोर्-दण्डाभ्यां हरिर् धनुः
बभञ्ज मध्यतो राजन्न्
इक्षु-दण्डं गजो यथा

ākṛṣya karṇa-paryantaṃ
dor-daṇḍābhyāṃ harir dhanuḥ
babhañja madhyato rājann
ikṣu-daṇḍaṃ gajo yathā

ākṛṣyadrawing bakc; karṇa-paryantam—to His ear; dor-daṇḍābhyām—with both hands; hariḥLord Kṛṣṇa; dhanuḥthe bow; babhañja—broke; madhyataḥ—in the middle; rājann—O king; ikṣu-daṇḍamsugar-cane; gajaḥ—an elephant; yathā—as.

English translation of verse 5.6.31:

Grasbing the bow with both hands, and drawing the string to His ears, Lord Kṛṣṇa broke the bow in the middle, as an elephant breaks a sugarcane stalk.
